Math Field Day

                                                  MATH FIELD DAY
On February 21, 2011, the annual Math Field Day Competition was held.  This year it was held at Logan Middle School. The competition was stiff, but we had the team to win.  Chapmanville Regional High School’s Math Field Day team consisted of Sravya Pidaparthi, Nancy, Kenny, Kishan, and Nichole.  Overall, we were the team winner for county.  We also had two single representatives from Chapmanville.  Sravya won first place and Nancy is the alternate.  I spoke with Sravya and Nancy personally to see what they had to say about the experience.  Sravya said, “I practiced weeks before the competition to prepare, but considering my father is a math teacher, it came pretty natural to me.  We were tested on geometry and algebra I.  The questions were difficult but we had the mentality to win.”  I also spoke with Nancy and she had little to say.  She told us that being an alternate meant she could only compete if someone was absent from the competition.   Nancy said she was still going to practice rigorously in hopes of taking someone’s place in the event.   The regional competition will be held in Huntington on March 15, 2011.  Good luck to all the participants and especially our Chapmanville Tigers!

  1. Very nice article. I am pretty sure that the regional competition is in SWVCTC, not Huntington.
