            This year has started out wonderful!  Last year we averaged 12 to 15 students a meeting; this year we have already lifted our average to 40 to 50.  We hope to increase more as the year goes on! Our club is a non-member club, which means everyone is welcome! Our first project for this year is to collect money for the Christmas Outreach Project!  This will involve the Chapmanville, Man, and Logan High School Prayer Clubs!  We will be collecting from now through December 1st, if you would like to make a donation please come to school and the secretary will directed in what to do.

The Prayer Club has also joined together with some other groups in trying to have a Thanksgiving Dinner for the underprivileged in our area! Join us by making donations of dinner accessories (plates, plastic ware, cups, etc.) you can bring your items to the school; all will be greatly appreciated!

I’ll be 28 in 10 years and hopefully I’ll be on my way to becoming a successful FBI agent. I’ll either be a cop for my last 2 years of work before I become an FBI agent. I’m hoping in 10 years that I’ll be solving an intense crime.

My best memory at CRHS was transferring here. I found my true friends. We had an unbelievable year in football. It’s a season I’ll never forget. I’ll never forget a thing about CRHS.

The thing I will miss about high school is that I won’t get to see my friends every day. I hardly see anyone from school. All I’ll get to do is work all the time.

Hopefully in 10 years, I will have a nice home with a good paying job. I would also like to have a kid or two with a wife. It would be nice to have a good ride, preferably, a muscle car. That’s about it. I can’t predict the future.

What I will miss the most about high school is my friends and teachers that I liked. I will miss the band and choir because we have grown to be family. I will love and miss everyone.

The Things I’ll miss the most are seeing my friends and my civics class. It is going to be hard leaving my best friends, but I wish them the best of luck in life. My Civics class always makes my day. I will miss how that class made me smile on a bad day. I love my friends and Coach Williamson. (The only thing I won’t miss is all the drama at this school)

What I’ll miss the most about high school is my friends and some of the teachers and most of all my third period civics class, because Mr. Williamson is the best teacher ever! I will miss seeing my friends who have became my family over these four years. Going to the football games and cheering for my school’s team. I will miss my civics class. We have so much in there. Mrs. Mahon’s class was fun; I always had a good time in there. I will miss not having all the responsibilities that came along with life. I am going to miss High School, but I can’t wait to graduate!

Chapmanville Boys Make it to States

The boys downed Sissonville Thursday night to make a trip back to states for the first time since 2001.  The Tigers won 10-1 over the Indians.  Jordan was the winning pitcher on the mound.  He gave up one earned run while giving up 6 and striking out 7.  Ellis says Jordan keeps his fast ball around 83 miles per hour, but was a little under that Thrusday night.  However, he still gave an ourstanding and strong pitching performance.  Both Tyler and Jordan had homeruns in the game giving Chapmanville a lift of energy while killing the Indians.  "They flat-out beat us," Sissonville Coach Kenny Harper said. "We knew coming in that they could pound the ball. We thought we were prepared for it, but obviously we weren't. That one inning they pounded it, what can you say? "It got out of hand and there was nothing we could do about it." Chapmanville has won only 2 state titles falling in the years of 1987 and 1997.  Ellis says he is excited to be back to be back.  The players are ready to play and hopefully they bring home another state title.  Chapmanville is scheduled to play the winner of Braxton County and Frankfort on Friday at the Power Park in Charleston.  Everyone come support and we wish them the best of luck.

PROM 2011 SEA OF DREAMS

Prom is on a Saturday, April 16th.  The theme for prom this year is, "Sea of Dreams."  Music will be provided by DJ Bill France, and pictures will be provided by Beth Forester.  Food and soft drinks will be served during the prom.  Pictures start at 6.00 p.m while prom walk begins at 7:30.  No one will be admitted into the dance after 9:00, and everyone not in the prom will have to leave by 9:00, unless you are a servant or helping out some other way.  The prom lasts from 8-12.  No alcohol beverages will be allowed and no one under the influence will be.  If you come with it on your breath, you will be asked to leave.  Dress formal, but agree with the dress code.  Don't come with something tacky that barely covers your body.  Don't forget to pay for your tickets by April 11th and fill out a form if you have an outside date.  Pay by cash or money.  Prom is only for JUNIORS and SENIORS.  Underclassmen are NOT allowed, even if from another school.  Enjoy and dance the night away!

2011 Chapmanville Regional High School Tennis

Chapmanville Tennis

The 2011 Chapmanville Tennis Team does not have a senior on the team. This year they have won a couple non conference and conference matches. They play a very tough schedule, Logan, Charleston catholic, Poca, they are All around good teams. Each of last 6 years we have been able to put someone in the state tournaments. We have had a solid team all 6 years. We are Right now in the process of rebuilding, lost 4 seniors last year top 4 seeds. Girls lost 2 seeds from last year so they got to step up and play in different positions. Good news is that we have been getting more people out and building Chapmanville Regional High School’s program better and I believe we can compete in state championship if everyone keeps working hard to get better.

Chapmanville Advances 2-0 in the Best of the Best

The Chapmanville Lady Tigers started off with a 2-0 record going into the Best of the Best Wednesday beating No. 8 Hoover 10-2 and No. 2 Ritchie 1-0.  Chapmanville is the only undefeated team in the tournament going into Saturday.  They will be playing Liberty Raleigh at 9:30 that morning which will be there last pool play game.  After that, it's single elimination from there on.  We want to wish the Lady Tigers luck and hopefully they'll win the tournament and stay No. 1 in the state!!!! GO TIGERS!!!

Chapmanville Softball

The Lady Tigers will host a tournament this weekend at their new softball field. The Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday. Many teams will be playing in it so everyone should come out and show support to the Lady Tigers and cheer them on. They will be playing three games this weekend against Tolsia, Riverside and Wyoming East. The Lady Tigers are ranked #1 in the state right now and are playing well; they are 3-0 so far this season and hope to stay undefeated for the rest of this season. Good luck to the Lady Tigers this weekend and hopefully they get three big wins!

-         First game on Friday starts @ 5:30pm vs. Tolsia.

-         Second game on Friday starts @ 7:00pm vs.  Riverside.

-         First game on Saturday starts @ 3:00pm vs. Wyoming East.

Radiation in Tokyo

Radioactive iodine detected in the capital’s water supply spurred a warning for infants and the government issued a new estimate about the costs of rebuilding from the earthquake and tsunami that slammed into the northeast of Japan this month.  Ei Yoshida, head of water purification for the Tokyo water department, said that infants in Tokyo and surrounding areas should not drink tap water.  He said that iodine-131 had been detected in water samples at a level of 210 Becquerel’s per liter.  The recommended limit for infants is only 100 Becquerel’s per liter.

            High levels of iodine that can be absorbed through the milk can accumulate in the thyroid gland and cause thyroid cancer.  High levels of cesium can damage cells and put many people at higher risk of developing other kinds of cancer.  Japan has already placed restrictions on foods, including spinach and milk that were produced in two plants near the Fukushima Daiichi plant.  Food inspectors detected iodine and cesium in the food, two of which are more dangerous radioactive byproducts that are feared to have been released from the reactors in Fukushima.

            The announcement added to the growing anxiety about public safety posed by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.  The Health Ministry said in a statement that it was unlikely that there would be negative consequences to infants who did drink the water, but that it should be avoided if possible and not be used to make infant formula.  It was not clearly why the levels of iodine were so high and the prevailing breezes seem to be pushing radiation out to sea, said a senior western nuclear executive.

Friends of Rachel Club

The committee presidents (Taylor, Cliff, and Jeffrey) of the FOR Club at Chapmanville Regional High School presented Mrs. Karen Varney with $630.00 for the Robert L. Varney Memorial Education Fund.  The scholarship was set up at Southern West Virginia Community College in memory of Ms. Varney's son, Bobby, who recently passed away following an extended illness.  Bobby was a graduate of SWVCC and greatly enjoyed his time there.  The monetary donation was collected from the students and staff at CRHS. (CRHS website) They have also completed a toy drive at West Chapmanville Grade School, they rung bells for the Salvation Army while working at Christmas in the Park, raised money for other various scholarship funds and charities, and next year a mixer is planned between CRHS and MHS.

History of April Fools

Unlike most of the other nonfoolish holidays, the history of April Fool's Day, sometimes called All Fool's Day, is not totally clear. It is not like Halloween, where despite an interesting history, most people just put on Halloween costumes, get candy, and leave it at that. There really wasn't a "first April Fool's Day" that can be pinpointed on the calendar. Some believe it sort of evolved simultaneously in several cultures at the same time, from celebrations involving the first day of spring.
The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. Prior to that year, the new year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March 25. The celebration culminated on April 1. With the reform of the calendar under Charles IX, the Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year's Day was moved to January 1.
However, communications being what they were in the days when news traveled by foot, many people did not receive the news for several years. Others, the more obstinate crowd, refused to accept the new calendar and continued to celebrate the new year on April 1. These backward folk were labeled as "fools" by the general populace. They were subject to some ridicule, and were often sent on "fools errands" or were made the butt of other practical jokes.
This harassment evolved, over time, into a tradition of prank-playing on the first day of April. The tradition eventually spread to England and Scotland in the eighteenth century. It was later introduced to the American colonies of both the English and French. April Fool's Day thus developed into an international fun fest, so to speak, with different nationalities specializing in their own brand of humor at the expense of their friends and families.

School Lunches/Nutrition

The food currently provided through the National School Lunch Program has not kept pace with what we know today to be truly healthy and nutritious food. Rather, the foods provided in the program under the guise of good nutrition. Chili cheese dogs, pepperoni pizza, cheeseburgers, and pork chops are there to prop up farm incomes and are part of the problem that has created a generation of overweight children.

Chapmanville High School Tennis

The 2011 Chapmanville Tennis Team has finally started. The tennis team consists of one senior, eleven juniors, Five Sophomores, and two freshmen. The tennis team has already played 2 games. On the 18^th of March they traveled To Poca, to play the Poca Dots. On the 21^st they had a home game against the Man Hillbillies. On March 25, 2011 the Chapmanville Tigers will be traveling to Spring Valley to play the Timberwolves. So, hopefully the tigers will go up there and kick butt. Go Tigers!

Lady Tigers #1 top #3 Sissonville, 3-1 in Thursday Nights Showdown

The Lady Tigers stand strong defending their #1 spot as they beat #3 Sissonville 3-1 on a cold Thursday night.  The Lady Tigers were led by Junior Allison who was 2-4 at the plate.  Senior Samantha, Junior Jenna, Freshman Lauryn, and Sophmore Talya all had hits as well.  Jenna had an earned RBI knocking Lauryn in to make it 1-0. Then, Talya had a two run homer against Junior Dee Dee to make the score 3-0.  Sissonville scored in the 7th inning as a runner got on base by an error then stole second. Then Dee Dee knocked her in with a single.  Allison had 13 strikeouts allowing two hits and three walks. Dee Dee had 10 strikeouts allowing 6 hits and 1 walk. Chapmanville advances on the season with an undefeated record 3-0. They will be away at Logan Monday, March 27th to face #1 Triple A Logan.  Logan has beat them in the past 2 events, but hopefully Chapmanville will pull through on this one.  Good Luck Lady Tigers!

Tiger Health Center

     This year, our school has added a new addition.  The Tiger Health Center has been placed downstairs for the student's and staff's medical needs.  Nicole Ellis is the provider.  The dental hygienist is Jamie Adkins, the nurse is Rebecca Adams, and the dentist is Steve Beckett.  The health center is open Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The medical staff is certified and has attended replicable colleges to achieve their degrees.  Before you can officially receive and benefit from the service at the Tiger Health Center, your legal guardian is required to fill out an enrollment form.  This is so the health staff is aware of your current health records and most recent visits and so on.  After the form is filled out, your parents are notified each time by the staff on the phone that you've stopped by the center.  The Tiger Health Center was places for us to use it. So let's take full advantage of this great opportunity.
